Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown broke with Republican leadership yesterday, voting with four of his GOP colleagues to advance the jobs bill.
Brown posted the following condensed statement to his Facebook fan page, with more than 205k fans, which has since been commented on more than 4k times:
“I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I am voting for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work. … I hope for improvements in that process going forward.”
The sheer volume of comments is ridiculous to this point, and while many are supportive (and just from my casual perusal it appears that most of the supportive comments are from Mass. residents), hundreds if not thousands of Scott Brown’s fans nationally are furious that Brown may actually be the “independent voice” he claimed to be during the campaign.
Here are some choice comments from Scott Brown’s “fans,” many of whom appear to be from other states (and there are plenty more that I simply cannot share because this is a family blog):
“Will give you a break this one time – we’ll chalk this one up to a HUGE rookie mistake, lets not see this again Senator… No more Rhino’s, no more infestations from Progressive’s into the two parties, weed out these cancers. Senator, make another blunder like this again and the people will rise up and throw you out with as much strength as you got to vote you in…”
‘Suck it Brown! Your first month in DC and you pull this crap??!! Your “independant” voice that you still have listed as your status is nothing but a lie. Must have picked that up from your mentor Obama who said what he needed to say to get to where he wanted to be. I gave you money. I supported you. I cheered your victory over Coakley. You are nothing but a RINO and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if you changed parties at the next election…You’re a fool and I’m a fool for having any hope in you. Done.”
“You screwed up by voting for a porky, expensive, and useless “jobs bill”. How much did you get from Harry Reid for your soul?”
“In order to not just be filling Kennedy’s seat, should have voted with your party and taken a stand against compromise!”
“Mr. Brown, you don’t seem to realize that you were elected from across this nation as a representative of conservatism. A voice to stop these ridiculous spending bills from Washington. Your’s was not a local election but a rising up of conservative ideals from every state in this nation. We urged your local constituents in every way possible to elect you as our voice. To speak for us. You have shown your true colors with this vote. You will either return to your senses and values soon or have a very short political career.”
“I got home yesterday and opened a thank you letter from you for my donation all the way from California. Then I saw the news of you support of this bill. In only 2 weeks you failed us.”
“Unreal. You sold out and it took all of two weeks.”
“What the hell were you thinking? And I sent you money??? Big mistake. Stop having your daughters try to peddle your “people’s seat” garbage on me. I am done with you.”
“Scott – I am so disappointed. You sold yourself as a fiscal conservative and I sent money for your campaign. I don’t even live in Massachusetts, but I had such hopes for you and what you’d bring to the Senate! Now I’m kicking myself for supporting you. Your vote for Reid’s jobs bill exposes you. You are a RINO – a fiscal Conservative would NEVER have voted for this bill or anything like it. $15 billion. Unbelieveable.”
(Side note: There are also a TON of comments along the lines of this one: “Mr. Brown, you openly admit that ‘…this BILL is not perfect…’ THEN, WHY DIDN’T YOU MAKE IT SO?” Apparently these people have seen a perfect bill. I wonder what one looks like?)
After the vote was reported yesterday, Red Mass Group editor Garrett Quinn wondered if the Scott Brown honeymoon was over. It certainly appears so.
Perhaps all that ‘Scott Brown for President’ talk was a bit premature after all.

“Perfect bill,” LOL. These people need an hour alone in a room with Mike Capuano.
Scott Brown needs an hour alone in a room with Mike Capuano. Or maybe Rahm Emanuel. I hope this means we can get Rahm to scare him into voting for other stuff
Boo-hoo to all the whiney people! I would rather have my representatives take action and pass measures to try to improve the lives of constituents rather than exist in bureaucratic purgatory. These people seem to have learned a valuable lesson about politics they could have already learned from Dennis Reylonds – “Politics is one big a–blast.”
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect….and most importantly….I can’t give you a surefire formula for success, but I can give you a formula for failure: try and please everybody all the time !!!
Words of wisdom from my old pals Mark and Herb
“Mr. Brown, you don’t seem to realize that you were elected from across this nation as a representative of conservatism.”
This facebook comment really sums up the ‘outside of Massachusetts’ feeling. These conservatives, many who live in the south and mid-west, think they helped propel Scott Brown to victory here in MA by sending him money in lieu of votes. Not true. The Independent voters in MA did the actual voting and that is why he won. The out of state conservatives realy have no right to say anything. We elected Scott Brown to represent our state, which is quite liberal, but has become more moderate over the years. We elected Scott Brown to do the right things, not simply follow the crowd. An Independent thinker.
The fact that he is being bashed by the hard right is an indication to me that we did the right thing.
Go Scott Go! This is why I voted for you!
He knows damn well that can’t be a far-right Republican and win re-election here. New England moderate-Republicans FTW!
