In a press release this week, Mike McGee, Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 4th Suffolk district, thanked outgoing State Rep. Brian Wallace for his years of service. (Disclaimer reminder, McGee is a close friend of mine.)
Wallace announced earlier this week that he would not seek re-election to the House in 2010.
McGee, who announced this past November he would be running for the Representative seat covering South Boston and parts of Dorchester, said in the release:
“I want to thank Representative Brian Wallace for his years of service to the community both as State Representative and as director of the Boys and Girls Club. He is someone who cares deeply about this community and has been a fine public servant. I applaud him for a long, storied career, and wish him and his family well.
Rep. Wallace’s decision not to run for re-election presents an opportunity for our community to engage in a dialogue about the future of South Boston and Dorchester. I have been running for this seat since last November because I love this community and I know that we can work together to continue to strengthen our neighborhoods. Beacon Hill is broken and we need a Representative who will work hard every day to clean-up the waste and abuse that exists, and to restore confidence in public service.
We face real challenges in our neighborhoods and I will be an advocate for our shared concerns. Every day on the campaign trail, I meet as many people as possible in the district, attending community meetings and house parties, and knocking on doors. The voices of our families and seniors are not falling on deaf ears. We all want an excellent choice of schools for local children, development that is community driven and compliments existing small businesses, and solutions to substance abuse issues that plague our neighborhood and destroy families. These concerns are my priorities.
Again, I thank Representative Wallace for his service, and look forward to the opportunity to continue the tradition of a true passion for our community.”
From what I am hearing, there might end up being a dozen candidates for the seat. The St. Patty’s Day Parade in Southie is going to be a political frenzy. Can’t wait.

No one with any knowledge of or experience in South Boston politics takes Mike McGee seriously – and least of all now.
Is this press release are try to save this campaign? he already bashed brian before and no is trying to cover his ass with a thank you. we all know he doesnt mean it and is full of it.
Mcgees campaign will end up like Conor Yunits campaign a dud… Both canidates stressed catholic roots and jesuit education and they both took extreme liberal stances on social issues.. Take a page out Yunits book Mcgee and give it up.. But hey Mcgee did play football in high school Yunits was just on the team
Hey now – I never stressed Catholic roots or my Jesuit education. Sadly, you are correct about my football career.
Conor- You do a good job on this website. I respect your disclosure dealing with the Mcgee Campaign, you have stated it multiple times and you didnt have to do it this early, but as a fair journalist you respected the rules I applaud you for that.. I along with many other people can’t understand Mikes decesion to run from south boston when he is from Norwood and his law offices just happen to be in Southie.. His stances are soo far to the left he does not respect the traditional catholic roots of the neighborhood and stances on these issues.. He states many new people have moved in and that is true but he doesnt represent new southie either since brown carried southie by 10 points.. when push comes to shove he is a lawyer from norwood…
“Conor”…Keep posting your negativity and we’ll keep working on the issues that affect Southie. Bye now!
There is so much about that comment I don’t understand…
It seems to me since people know your tight with Mcgee now and they are going to keep a close eye on what you post and publish on this race… I would stay away from Mcgee…People know you are a Journalist now and that you have roots together public appearences with the two of you could spell bad news… and it could be bad for this site.. My advice would be stay away from this race..
SBV –
1) I am glad people will be keeping a close eye on what I post and publish. That was the whole point of my disclaimer.
2) All I did was post a press release, the same thing I do for every candidate in every race. Every other candidate in the 4th Suffolk and every other race is welcome and encouraged to send releases my way.
3) Who ever said I was a journalist?
4) I don’t make public appearances “with” anyone other than my wife, it could be bad for my marriage.
