Cahill campaign responds to Sunday Globe article on fund raising

Massachusetts Treasurer Tim Cahill’s campaign for Governor released the following statement this evening in response to a Sunday Globe story on his fund raising record:

“Tim Cahill has an outstanding record as state treasurer. The proof is in performance. Under Tim Cahill’s stewardship, the PRIT fund has grown by over 70%, from $25.9 billion in 2002 to $42.7 billion in 2009, an increase of $17 billion. This includes a 17.64% rate of return in 2009.

Unlike other states, the Massachusetts state treasurer does not have sole discretion in selecting pension fund managers. Tim Cahill casts one vote and has one appointee on a nine member board and all procurement decisions are made through a rigorous, multi-step process.

Tim Cahill has again and again challenged the entrenched special interests that dominate Beacon Hill politics. Whether by leaving the Democratic Party last summer to run as an independent or by speaking the truth on a health care reform plan that threatens to bankrupt the state and country Tim Cahill has shown he will put the taxpayers of Massachusetts before the insiders on Beacon Hill. Tim Cahill will continue to talk about what needs to be done to reign in government spending, promote business growth, and rebuild the middle class in Massachusetts.”

Cahill is corrupt, like everyone else who has been on Beacon Hill too long.

What a load of crap. Tim Cahill is a HACK crony. We need everyone who is a part of this corrupt culture on Beacon Hill OUT of there.

Just like everything else in government, when an economy rises, the pol in office claims credit. When it sinks, he blames everyone else. How did Cahill’s performance compare to other states, and the marketplace in general? How did it compare year by year, especially during the recent tough crash year?

Complete non-response. So he has “just one vote.” So what? One out of 9. Members of Congress have “just one vote” too. One out of 435. That does not mean they get to sell that vote. The globe investigation is just one more indictment of the baloney Cahill is trying to peddle. He’s no outsider. He’s no independent. He is a Beacon Hill incumbent who participates willingly and even eagerly in our government’s culture of pay to play corruption.
