It seems like the issue is decided at this point for the Massachusetts delegation, but Treasurer Tim Cahill made a final effort last night to convince our eight pro health care reform Congressmen and one Congresswoman to vote against the bill.
In an email to the delegation, Cahill wrote:
Members of Congress:
Senior White House Advisor David Axelrod said earlier this week that President Obama’s health care plan has been modeled after the Massachusetts health insurance mandate of 2006.
Based on Massachusetts data, if President Obama and supporters repeat the mistakes of the health insurance mandate on a national level, they will bankrupt this country within four years. I warn of the disastrous fiscal and budgetary implications the plan has had for people living in Massachusetts.
I have asked those in opposition of the national legislation to sign a petition, joining me in my fight to bring attention to this issue. I have gathered more than 1,000 signatures in the past 24 hours. I urge you to please stop your efforts to pass this bill while there is still time.
Sincerely,
Timothy P. Cahill
The petition was not actually attached to the email I received, but presumably a copy was sent to the delegation. Congress is expected to vote on health care this afternoon.
